How rodents get into North Hollywood buildings
Ground-floor parking and laundry rooms
Many North Hollywood apartment buildings have parking, trash enclosures and laundry rooms on the ground floor. Those spaces give rodents cover and warmth right against the building, and pipe runs and shared walls lead from there up into the units.
Storefronts on Lankershim and Magnolia
Theaters, restaurants and shops line Lankershim and Magnolia Boulevards, often in older buildings with apartments or houses right behind them. Kitchen waste, back doors and gaps where old walls meet newer work give rodents a way in, and from there the homes nearby are close.
Sheds and garages on the side streets
On the side streets, older houses sit on narrow lots with sheds, garages and trees at the back. Roof rats travel along fences and power lines from yard to yard, and a garage or shed at the back of the lot is often the first building they get into.
Construction near the station
New buildings keep going up around the North Hollywood station. When older buildings come down and ground is dug up, the rodents that lived there move to the houses and buildings next door, looking for new cover and a way inside.
In apartment buildings, rodents move between units through shared walls, pipe runs and garages, so a problem can start next door.
