How rodents reach Studio City homes
Along the river channel
The river channel and the Tujunga Wash run right behind some Studio City streets, with plants along the top of the banks. Rodents use long, sheltered corridors like these to travel, then cross into yards under fences and gates and look for a gap at the base of the house.
Colfax Meadows’ older houses
Many Tudor and Spanish-style houses in Colfax Meadows are close to a century old. Crawlspace vents, chimneys, attic vents and old wood trim have all had time to loosen, and each is a possible way in for a rat or a mouse.
Canyon-side lots
Up Laurel, Fryman and Coldwater Canyons, houses sit beside parkland covered in oaks, chaparral and brush. Wild rodents live there, and decks, crawlspaces and retaining walls on steep lots give them places to shelter against the house, out of sight.
Stages, offices and restaurants
Radford Studio Center, the production offices near it and the restaurants on Ventura Boulevard sit beside homes. Stages, kitchens and storage rooms have loading doors, utility lines and roof penetrations, and rodents find gaps in large buildings as readily as in houses.
In apartment buildings, rodents move between units through shared walls, pipe runs and garages, so a problem can start next door.
