Where rodents get in around Burbank
Horse properties in the Rancho
Stables, feed rooms and tack sheds are part of daily life in the Rancho. Grain and feed draw mice and rats, and barns and sheds give them cover a few steps from the house. Openings at the base of a stable wall or around feed storage are where they settle first.
Hillside lots by the Verdugos
Homes on the Hillside streets back onto chaparral and canyon land in the Verdugo Mountains. Wild rodents live in the brush, and houses on slopes often have decks, retaining walls and crawlspaces where gaps open on the downhill side, out of sight.
Magnolia Park’s 1940s houses
The veterans’ houses of Magnolia Park have had decades of additions, re-roofs and remodels. Original attic vents and garage doors wear out, and the seams where an addition meets the old house leave small openings. Those seams and worn vent screens are where rodents find a way into the attic.
Studios and offices in the Media District
Sound stages, production offices, commissaries and the restaurants around them make up a dense business district on Burbank’s south side. Large buildings with loading docks, roll-up doors and utility penetrations get the same kind of inspection a house does, on a bigger scale.
Age matters here: vent screens, eaves and foundations open up over the decades, and those small gaps are how mice and rats get in.
