Where rodents get into Encino homes
Under the oaks
Coast live oaks still shade many Encino lots. Their heavy limbs reach over roofs, and acorns and deep leaf litter feed and hide rodents under the canopy. Roof rats use the branches as a bridge to the roofline and the attic vents.
Big lots, many buildings
Larger Encino lots often hold a main house, a pool house, a guest house and a detached garage. Every extra building adds walls, roof edges and utility lines, and rodents can settle in a quiet outbuilding before they move to the main house.
Hillside streets in Royal Oaks and the Encino Hills
Up in the hills, homes sit on slopes beside brush and open land. Decks, pool equipment areas, retaining walls and the downhill side of a foundation are the hard-to-see spots where openings are most often found, well away from where anyone looks day to day.
Behind the Ventura Boulevard businesses
The shopping centers, offices and restaurants along Ventura Boulevard back onto residential streets. Dumpsters, loading areas and kitchens draw rodents, and the houses on the blocks just behind the boulevard are within easy reach, often across a single wall or fence.
In apartment buildings, rodents move between units through shared walls, pipe runs and garages, so a problem can start next door.
