Where rats and mice get into Redondo Beach buildings
Harbor and pier businesses
Restaurants and shops on the pier and around King Harbor handle food all day beside the water, the breakwater rocks and the boat slips. Norway rats live along waterfronts and come in at ground level, through door gaps and utility openings. Commercial rodent control covers these businesses, with trapping and sealing and no poison.
Tall houses in Golden Hills
Tall homes on narrow lots leave tight side yards lined with fences, utility lines and equipment. Roof rats climb those fences and lines to reach upper floors and the roof, where vents, eaves and the openings for air conditioning and solar lines give them a way in well above where most owners look.
Duplexes and fourplexes
Older multi-unit buildings share walls, attics and garages. Mice that get in through one unit can move through the whole building, so the source of the trouble may be several doors away. Looking at the full property, not one unit, shows how rodents travel between apartments.
Next to the green edges
Homes near Hopkins Wilderness Park and the wetlands at the old power plant site back onto planted and wild ground. Rodents living there move along fences and walls into nearby yards, then on to garages, sheds and the gaps at the base of the house.
Newer homes get rodents too, usually through garages, roof vents and the openings where pipes and cables come in.
