Where rodents get in around Eagle Rock
Below the rock and the hills
Homes near the rock and on the hillside streets north of the 134 back onto open slopes of brush. Wild rodents live in that cover, and the first things they reach are garages, retaining walls and the lower floors of houses built into the hill.
Colorado and Eagle Rock Boulevards
The two boulevards are lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. Food businesses and the trash areas behind them draw rats and mice, and commercial rodent control covers these storefronts as well as the homes on the blocks behind them.
Stucco and tile from the 1920s
Mission Revival and other period houses have stucco walls, tile roofs and decorative attic vents. The open ends of tiles at the eaves and cracks where stucco meets wood trim leave gaps that roof rats and mice use to reach the attic.
Bungalow courts and duplexes
Eagle Rock has bungalow courts, duplexes and small apartment buildings along with its houses. Rodents move between attached units through shared attics, walls and garages, so the whole building matters, not only the one unit where someone first heard noises at night.
Age matters here: vent screens, eaves and foundations open up over the decades, and those small gaps are how mice and rats get in.
